Painting Conservation and Restoration...

Since starting my conservation and restoration apprenticeship I've been meaning to do a post on some of the pieces I've been working on. Here are a few paintings I've restored...

If you look closely at this landscape you should be able to see a small patch of paint that had flaked off on the river...

Now you shouldn't be able to see it...

This painting entitled 'Highland Boy with Dogs and Pony' is by the artist Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1873) who I recently learnt made the Lion sculptures in Trafalgar Square. This took a whole day to clean as the varnish had turned an almost mustard yellow, as well as re-patching and re-touching the tear in the middle.

Here is quite a sweet Italian painting, the artist is not known, that also needed cleaning and re-touching.
